David Gill has served as the Consul General of Germany in New York since 2017.

Prior to moving to New York, Gill held the position of State Secretary and Head of the Office of the Federal President, the highest office in the land. From 2004 to 2012, Gill served as the Deputy Representative of the Council of the Protestant Church in Germany (EKD) to the Federal Republic of Germany and the EU. His deep understanding of both ecclesiastical and political landscapes further enriched his professional journey.

Gill's commitment to public service is evident in his roles at the heart of government. As a desk officer within the Office of the Commissioner for Data Protection and Freedom of Information in Berlin from 2001 to 2003, he championed data protection and freedom of information rights. His role at the Federal Ministry of the Interior from 2000 to 2001 demonstrated his dedication to policy and administration.

Amid the transformative events of 1990, he held pivotal positions in the dissolution of the GDR Ministry of State Security. In recognition of his remarkable contributions, David Gill was honored with the Theodor Heuss Medal in 1991.

Gill holds a law degree from the Freie Universität Berlin and was also awarded a Master in Law from the University of Pennsylvania.
